If you’ve been a fan of long-standing TV shows, you may have missed the moment the Duchess of Sussex appeared on the screen in a bid to break into the industry. Years before her debut in Suits, Meghan Markle had another small part on TV, but her confession years later was criticized by Whoopi Goldberg.
Meghan Markle gave up her life on the small screen when she married the love of her life. Walking down the aisle towards Prince Harry, the two embarked on a different journey. Passionate over good causes, charities and giving back, the royals have embarked on an endless list of positive endeavors. But prior to falling for a prince – just like a Hollywood story – the Duchess was making a name for herself on television. Prior to landing the job as Rachel Zane on Suits, she had to take a number of little roles or small castings to prove her worth. One of those gigs, though, made her feel uneasy.
Meghan Markle was a briefcase girl on Deal or No Deal
Blink and you probably did miss it. Meghan was one of the women who held the briefcases on the famous Deal or No Deal.
The royal bagged the gig in 2006, years before she was known as the intelligent Rachel on Suits in 2011. It was part of a long list of small parts she took as she honed her craft.
Meghan also starred as a nurse in General Hospital, CSI: NY, 90210 and played a junior agent in Fringe. She’d later go on to star in Robert Pattinson’s Remember Me film, where she’d meet her first husband, Trevor Engelson.
Meghan would leave with a ‘pit in her stomach’

Years later, the now Duchess of Sussex admitted how the show really felt to her, though. She had mixed feelings about her stint on the series, and it made her feel uneasy.
On her Spotify podcast, Archetypes, she explained last year that she felt she was being objectified on the stage.
The 42-year-old said: “I would end up leaving with this pit in my stomach, knowing that I was so much more than what was being objectified on the stage.
“I didn’t like feeling forced to be all looks and little substance. And that’s how it felt for me at the time: being reduced to this specific archetype.”
After her episode, another model who joined Meghan Markle on Deal or No Deal spoke out. She didn’t agree with the star, who currently lives with husband Harry and their two children in their Montecito mansion.
Donna Feldman told Hollywood Life: “I have read Meghan’s comments about being treated like a ‘bimbo’ while working on Deal or No Deal, but I have to disagree with what is being said.
“During my time on the show, neither myself nor anybody else I worked with was ever treated as such, in my opinion. However, it’s important to note that everyone has their own experience, and I can only speak from mine.”
Whoopi Goldberg admits it made her ‘feel bad’
The topic of discussion reached talk show The View, with the likes of Whoopi Goldberg stepping in to give her two cents.
The ABC co-host criticized Meghan Markle’s comments on Deal or No Deal at the time on the panel. She kindly explained that people were on the show for the large sums of cash, not for beautiful women.
She explained: [Wheel of Fortune hostess] Vanna White is always in something interesting and beautiful, and she’s been doing this.
“The objectification might be coming from you and how you felt about how these women were being portrayed, and that’s what you have to change, because we’re performers.
“We’re not journalists, we’re actors… You left, and that was your prerogative.
“I feel bad, because I don’t think people were looking at these girls like this. I think they want the money.”
